How Shiatsu Works

Shiatsu is a Japanese massage, which treats the whole body, gives total relaxation,
energizes the whole body, stimulates all body systems, and promotes health and well-being and much more.

Common conditions treated with Shiatsu include stiff neck and shoulders, headaches, backache and insomnia
and stress-related symptoms like high blood pressure. Regularity of Shiatsu session is the key to optimal results.

During your Shiatsu session, the Shiatsupractor applies the appropriate type and amount of pressure required for the condition of your body.
This in turn, triggers the appropriate stimulation that your body needs to recover and maintain health.
Only finger and palm pressure techniques are used to treat your body during the Shiatsu session.

The theory of Shiatsu is based on anatomy, physiology and pathology.
There are 772 basic Shiatsu pressure points, or Atten in Japanese, located on the muscles, nerves,
blood vessels, lymph vessels, bones and endocrine glands.

Namikoshi Shiatsu gets its name from the founder of Shiatsu, Mr Tokujiro Namikoshi.
In 1955, the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare officially legalized Shiatsu as a therapy.
In1997, the European Parliament officially approved Shiatsu as one of the eight non-conventional complementary medicine disciplines.
In 2004, the World Health Organization (WHO) officially approved Shiatsu as one of the six recognized manual therapies.
